7th April 2010NIC.DO, the Dominican Republic registry, has announced the extension of the grandfathering period until 10 June 2010 to allow for more applications for 2nd-level .DO domains. Argentinian Website Warning
6th April 2010The Argentinian Registry (NIC.AR) has recently issued an important notice on their website. They are warning registrants that they must ensure their contact and other data* associated with their Domain names are accurate and up to date, or risk losing those Domains. It’s particularly important for the Registrant email address to be valid.
NIC.AR are stating that discovery of incorrect registrant data (name, address, telephone no. ), use of false names, corporate names missing, etc., could result in the deletion of the Registrant, which would automatically delete ALL Domains for that registrant.
NEW .UK Name Opportunities
6th April 2010Nominet, the national registry for .UK Domain names has announced their intention to allow registration of one character, two letter and other reserved .UK Domain names which are currently not permitted. This is an exciting opportunity potentially opening up valuable new Domains.
Nominet has begun a consultation period on the proposed release lasting until 8 June 2010 and they would like to gather feedback from any stakeholders (including Registrants – so now is your time to speak up!).
New .FR Policy
5th April 2010AFNIC, the French Registry has a strong identification and eligibility process which verifies the holder of the Domain. As of 1 March 2010, AFNIC has added a new procedure to this policy.
AFNIC may delete, at its own discretion, Domain names that do not follow the naming charter after identification operations and/or eligibility checks.
The Cost of Pressure Buying
5th April 2010Increasing numbers of our clients are receiving unsolicited third party emails from the Far East coercing them to buy international Domains. These alarming emails create such impact that you may feel pressured into reactively purchasing at a high cost rather than protecting your brand online with a controlled and planned strategy.
Most emails declare they are from a professional ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ organization and claim to have received a request from a potential customer to register multiple Domain names identical to yours (in various different extensions or an ‘internet brand’ - sometimes referred to as ‘internet keywords’).
